Cutest Stuff Ever!

Look what was waiting for me when I got home yesterday:

Tanielle at The Polka Dot Daisy has the cutest handwriting, don't ya think?

S L O W L Y opening the package...

The suspension builds;

Cue "Jaws" music... da dum, da dum...

Isn't this just oozing with sweetness and cuteness? Festive orange tissue paper and a handwritten note! I wish my handwriting looked like this.

The Goods! The Loot! The Stuff!
So cute! Even cuter in person. How creative, how clever! I love it all! Thanks Tanielle!

And, good thing no one was home when I opened the package! My family already thinks I'm nuts so I didn't need to add any more evidence to that theory! I'm just sayin'... :)
HAPPY FALL!

Peanut Butter Bars

One year, for my birthday, my grandma gave me this:

A recipe box filled with her favorite handwritten recipes.
It is still a gift I treasure. Many of her favorite recipes have become my favorites too!

One of my most requested recipes is one I got from Grandma, peanut butter bars! These are so good, and simple to make!

Peanut Butter Bars
3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
3/4 cup peanut butter (I like chunky)
3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups old fashioned rolled oats
1 cup peanut butter, whipped (I like creamy)
16 oz tub chocolate frosting
Mix first eight ingredients. Then add all the flour and oats. Mix well.
Spread onto a 10x15 cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 for 12-15 minutes or until edges are beginning to brown.
Remove from oven and spread whipped peanut butter on hot cake.
Cool and then spread with chocolate frosting.
Cut into bars and serve.

* "The Sound of Music" opens on Broadway

* Barbie makes her debut

* Alaska becomes the 49th State, and Hawaii the 50th

* "Bonanza" premieres on NBC, and is the first weekly broadcast completely in color

* Doris Day, Frank Sinatra, Connie Francis, Jim Reeves & Ella Fitzgerald are popular singers

* "Ben Hur" & "Some Like it Hot" are popular movies

* Dwight D. Eisenhower is President of the United States

* A gallon of gas costs 25 cents

* A loaf of bread costs 20 cents

And on August 28, 1959...
My parents were married!

Per their wishes, we celebrated simply, with a family dinner. We had lots of good food, a few laughs and shared lots of memories.

I happened to have their wedding cake topper, and was able to fix it up and use it on the cake.

It was a wonderful day, and a wonderful event to celebrate.

Happy 50th Anniversary Mom & Dad!

Back to School

School started here a couple of weeks ago!

With all our moves the last few years, Spencer has gone from Elementary (K-6th) to Jr. High (7 & 8th) back to Elementary (K-8th) and now again to Jr. High! He's excited to be able to take Seminary. He is doing great, making lots of new friends. In fact, he's been "Mr. Popularity" since we moved. The first week after we moved in, I had giggling girls on my doorstep ever night, asking for Spencer. Sometimes they even brought treats!

The morning of the first day of school. Shane was a little nervous, can ya tell?

After school...he had a GREAT day! He was so cute, he came bursting out of his classroom when the bell rang, and shouted across the playground, "Mom, it was awesome!" He really likes his teacher and has made lots of friends too.

It's always nice (and a big relief) when things start falling into place! Both boys have done great at adapting to new circumstances. They are old pros at moving and making new friends!
Here's to a great school year!

Halloween Is Just Around the Corner

You can get ready by entering this giveaway at The Polka Dot Daisy.

As a side note, Emily suggested perhaps I need to find a Blogaholic group to join!
I wish everyone would stop with the awesome giveaways! (Just kidding).
